Skin Care Tips for Swimmers

Skin Care Tips for Swimmers

Sometimes nothing feels better than a cool dip in a pool or the ocean on a hot day. Until you get out, that is. While swimming is therapeutic for the mind and good for the heart, it is not always the best for your skin.

Whether you swim in a chemically treated pool, a salt-filled ocean, or a pond or lake, there are steps you can take to insure that your skin remains healthy and hydrated.

There is no cause for concern. What your skin is exhibiting is a classic symptom of over exposure to chlorinated water. Water in a swimming pool is highly chlorinated which is not good for your skin. Excessive chlorine in water dries your skin by depleting it of its moisture and it also severely hampers the skin cells ability to retain moisture.

Use a mild soap and lukewarm water for the bath and clean your body of the pool water thoroughly. Additionally, there are several lotions and creams that are sold over the counter that are effective in protecting your skin from the ravages of chlorinated water. Water proof sunscreen lotion is one among them. Caution is however advised in choosing these products though, since several of them have a harsh chemical composition which will further worsen matters as far as the tanning is concerned.

In extreme cases, some substances may also act as an allergen on your skin. Hence go for products that are preferably herbal and mild. Visit a dermatologist and better understand your skin type and its needs before choosing these products.

After the bath, moisturize your skin well using a gentle moisturizer. Gently massage the moisturizing lotion on to your skin using your fingertips in a rotating motion. A banana pack is also said to be highly effective in reducing the darkening and restoring natural skin color.

Leave the pack on the skin for at least an hour for this treatment to produce any visible results. Supplementing your diet with some essential nutrients will also help. Increase your daily intake of nutrients such as vitamin E and vitamin C. Vitamin C is an excellent natural anti oxidant and vitamin E helps improve your skin’s moisture retention capability.

Additionally, eat a lot of protein rich foods like eggs, meat, pulses and so on. Also eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Keeping your skin hydrated is also vital. Drink lots of water and other fluids like fresh fruit juices to achieve this. You can also try humidifying your environment. Stand in a hot shower with the door closed for twenty minutes. This can work wonders for skin darkened due to over exposure to chlorinated water in a swimming pool.

Advice

Not all expensive skin care products are necessarily high-quality products, but many inexpensive skin care products are definitely low-quality products. Avoid products that contain unnecessary preservatives and fragrances, as they may contribute to skin damage.

B + U architects: mixed used building, LA

american B + U architects have developed a proposal for a mixed use office building in los angeles,
california  - a landmark building aiming to enhance the cities vision as the premier quality city
in the southeast area of los angeles county and to revitalize the industrial landscape of the site into
a vital urban environment.

the project is characterized by its response to the urban setting, its vision for the office work environment
within a highly sustainable building design, and by its formal and structural elegance. the three level
mixed use building includes a café and retail space at the ground floor and two levels of open office
spaces above. the office spaces are configured around a center atrium space that opens up to the street
creating the main entrance for the building. the ephemeral quality of the building envelope is realized
through a high tech fabric enclosure system that utilizes multiple layers of fabrics with different degrees
of transparencies/ opacities. this envelope is able to adjust to the different exterior light conditions
and provide consistent natural daylight levels throughout the office spaces. while the more delicate
fabric encloses for the upper two office levels, the restaurant and retail spaces on the ground floor open
up to the street with a glass envelope. landscape elements create a green barrier between the outdoor
seating area of the café and the street.

2010 MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR

When we recently got the chance to take the latest 2010 MV Agusta Brutale 990R for a spin, we didn't find the naked bike lacking for power. With 998cc of inline-four goodness cranking itself merrily away under the rider, measuring 139 horsepower and 78 pound-feet of torque when measured at the crankshaft, the new Brutale has plenty of oomph.

If you find yourself in need for more horses, though, MV Agusta will gladly sell you the enlarged 1090RR version with 144 horsepower. And if that's still not enough? A head examination may be in order – this is a naked bike after all – but there's always the newly announced Cannonball Kit to feed your insatiable lust for power.

According to the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, the combination of new ECU, cylinder head, camshafts, valves and titanium exhaust system will add an additional 21 horses to the 1090RR, putting total output at 165 horsepower. It all sounds good, except for the fact that the kit is not certified for road use and we don't know of too many Brutale owners that ride their bikes exclusively on the track...

How To Answer Audience Questions

How To Answer Audience Questions

Handling questions in your presentation can be a scary time for professional speakers. The fear that someone will ask a question that they can't answer makes this section one of the most dreaded sections of the speech.

This fear is so real that presenters will often cut this area short or avoid it all together to get past this section. Here are some tips that will help you to handle this section effectively.

1. Be a great listener. After spending the entire time talking, now is your chance to respond and interact with your audience. Listen to your audience's questions completely before starting to answer. If you don't, you may respond inappropriately not answering what the person was really asking.

2. Give yourself time to think. Listen to the entire question. Repeat the question to give you some time to respond. You can also add filler phrases like "that's a good question", "that's a popular question" or "that's an interesting question".

3. Acknowledge your audience member for asking the question. People appreciate acknowledgement and starts to create a personal bond between you and the audience. They start to feel appreciated for participation in your presentation and they warm up to your speech 4. Answer the question. Stay on track and be honest. If you do not know the answer at the time, let them you that you will find out and get back to them. This is an especially great opportunity if your goal is to develop a long term relationship with your audience. Just remember to get back to them as you say you would.

5. Create clean transitions between questions by creating "bridges" to the next question. Ask your audience another question such as "Does that answer your question?" Stay on the question until it has been answered appropriately.

Here are some tips to interact better with your audience during the question and answer period.

1. Ask your audience member to stand when they have a question. One of the primary reasons for doing this is to help the rest of the room hear the question more clearly as well. Additionally, you are also able to establish a line of sight eye connection with the person asking the question.

2. Ask your audience to write their questions down on paper. They can either submit this to you or read from their paper at a designated time.

3. If your audience member is shy and does not want to ask their question, create alternative times that you will be available. You're goal is to help them understand the points you are trying to make.

4. Have a paper and pencil for yourself to write down questions that you can't answer. Jot the question down as well as contact information of the person asking the question so you can get back to them.

The question and answer period is a great time to interact with your audience. Many people and instructors like will also say that they learn from this time more than any other section in the presentation. You will also be able to see what exactly your audience has picked up during your presentation. Don't avoid this section any longer!
